The U.S. arm of British bookmaking giant, William Hill, announced Monday that Sharon Otterman has been appointed as the firm’s new Chief Marketing Officer.

Joe Asher, Chief Executive Officer for the Las Vegas-based firm, said, “We are thrilled to welcome Sharon to our rapidly-expanding team at William Hill, particularly during such an exciting time in our growth process. Sharon is a proven leader and we are thrilled that we could pull her away from one of the most high-profile jobs in sports marketing to join William Hill.”
Vast experience:
Otterman, who has more than two decades of experience in developing brands for top-tier companies, joins the leading bookmaker from New York City-based American sports and entertainment holding company, Madison Square Garden Company (NYSE:MSG). She has, since April 2015, served as Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, responsible for directing and planning brand strategies that enabled further growth across the firm’s sports, entertainment and media businesses.
Prior to joining Madison Square Garden Company, Otterman spent nearly six years at NBCUniversal, having most recently served as Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for MSNBC (2009) and NBC News. There she oversaw the development and implementation of all marketing programs and strategies, including Meet the Press, the Today Show and Nightly News.
Prior to her time at MSNBC, Otterman spent six years at ESPN, having served as Vice President of Customer Experience Strategy and New Media Marketing.
Education:
From New York University, Otterman holds an Executive Master of Business Administration and a Bachelors degree in Corporate Communication from Ithaca College.
Commenting on the appointment, Otterman said, “The popularity of sports betting has never been higher” and that she is ‘thrilled’ to join William Hill, “the international leader in this industry, to help serve an expanding, engaged customer base.”

The U.K.-based operator is a global bookmaking leader and has been in the business for upwards of eight decades. The leading sports book operator facilitates more than 1,000,000 bets a day. At present, the U.S. arm operates 107 sports books in the Silver State, where is the leading mobile sports betting app.
William Hill US opened sports books at Monmouth Park Racetrack in New Jersey and at the newly-opened Ocean Resort Casino in Atlantic City following the May 14, 2018, Supreme Court decision that cleared the way for states to legalize sports betting.
