WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic Win Sets Alex Foxen Up to win GPI Player of the Year 2019

Season XVIII WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic just finished up and poker player Alex Foxen has been named the winner. Not only has Foxen earned the title win and $1.6 million, he also is now set to be the 2019 Global Poker Index Player of the Year. The poker player finished in second place during the event in 2017 and was able to win the Player of the Year at the same time. He knew a good finish in this year’s Five Diamond would also secure him the accolade.

With the finish, Foxen will go from 10^th place in the Player of the Year race to 1st and would essentially earn back to back Player of the Year titles. With this accomplishment, Foxen would be considered one of the best players in the business.

Final Table Play:

When the final table began, Foxen would start second in chips. He would be slightly behind Danny Park. However, a big pot between the two players would see Foxen move into the lead. A few more players would be eliminated, including Foxen taking out Jonathan Jaffe and Seth Davies before heads up would begin. Foxen would face Toby Joyce in the final round.

The tournament would end on hand #165. Foxen would limp in on the button and Joyce would check his option with the big blind. The flop showed J-5-3 and Joyce would check. Foxen bet 400,000 and Joyce would check raise the hand to 1,100,000.

Foxen then bet to 2 million total and Joyce would call. A K on the turn would see Joyce check and Foxen would move all in. He had Joyce covered so it would take four time extensions at the Bellagio poker tables before Joyce would decide to call.

Foxen showed A-J offsuit while Joyce showed J-9. The 4 on the river gave Foxen the hand and Joyce would have to settle for second with a $1.1 million payday.
