After in August 2017, the self-parking garages at Wynn Las Vegas and Encore began to charge visitors and registered hotel guests for parking, Wynn Resorts Ltd. (NASDAQ: WYNN), recently announced that effective July 1, hotel guests will no longer be charged for parking. Any patron spending $50 or more, including gambling, food and shopping, will be offered free self-parking and valet service.

According to a Thursday report from the Las Vegas Sun newspaper, under the new policy, the $39 resort fee charged by both Las Vegas Boulevard venues, will include parking for hotel guests and groups can divide their spending to cover parking for more than one vehicle.

In March; when Las Vegas Sands Corp. raised its daily resort fees to $45 for its two Las Vegas properties including The Palazzo and The Venetian, a spokesman for Wynn Resorts reportedly said that the company has not planned to increase resort fees and does not raise them on an annual schedule.

Hotel amenities including but not limited to the use of fitness centers, swimming pools and business centers along with high-speed internet, are all covered under resort fees. Hotel guests are charged the fees regardless if they take advantage of the amenities or not.

With MGM Resorts International leading the charge, having announced in 2016 that it intended to eliminate free parking at most of its Las Vegas Strip properties, the two Wynn properties have become the first major resorts on the Strip to do away with the fees it implemented on August 7, 2017.

Wynn Las Vegas president, Maurice Wooden,  said, “Our guests choose to stay with us because of the attention we give to perfecting every detail of their experience.

“We have come to believe that charging additional parking fees is counter to the personalized service we provide. This new policy directly reflects the way we know our guests want and deserve to be treated,” explained Wooden.

Las Vegas Strip properties that still offer free parking include SLS Las Vegas Hotel & Casino, which offers complimentary self-park; Palazzo and Venetian, which each offer complimentary valet and parking garages; Treasure Island, also offers both complimentary valet parking and self-parking; as does the Tropicana. Planet Hollywood offers free self-parking, with valet starting at $15.
