On Sunday, July 12, 2015 an update on the Melbourne Pokies Pilot Program stated 100 volunteer players are starting to use pokie machines with a set betting limit. The trial is looking for glitches in the software, so it can be corrected before the full launch of the program. The program was enabled in order to reduce gaming addictions. The trial period is the precursor to the schemes start in December 2015.

Players have 14 locations throughout Australia to test the software. The locations where testing is being conducted are Bendigo, Abbostford, Brunswick, Altona, Caulfield South, Dandenong, Geelong, Hampton, Newport, and Footscray.

Once December comes around the multimillion dollar pokies program will be used in all Melbourne gaming facilities.
