Casinos in Northwest Indiana have seen a decrease in gaming revenues for the month of August, when compared to the same month last year. Despite the overall loss, slot machine gaming was up with a 2% increase, which is encouraging for operators.

For August, casinos in this region of the state earned just over $75 million overall via table gaming and slot machines. This was 1.3% less than the $76.5 million earned in August 2016, based on the Indiana Gaming Commission monthly report.

According to NWI.com, the casinos saw $630.8 million in slot game play for August with revenues of $60.9 million from that amount. While slot gaming was up, table game play was down. A decrease of less than 1% brought table games to $14.5 million in revenue.

The Horseshoe was the only gaming venue in the Northwest region to see an increase in year-over-year totals in August. Up 0.3%, the casino earned a total of $33.1 million. The state’s largest casino, the Horseshoe has actually seen an increase in revenues for the past four consecutive months.

On the downside, the Ameristar saw a big dip in revenue earnings with $16.8 million for the year, a 4% decrease. Down 1.7%, the two Majestic Star Casinos earned $12.2 million for the month. The Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City saw a 1.5% decrease with $13.2 million in earnings.

Casino visitorship was down for August, with a drop in attendance of 1.9% with 795,016 individuals traveling to the Northwest Indiana venues in total. When looking at statewide gambling establishment revenue totals, an increase of less than 1% was seen with overall revenues for August coming in at $180.8 million. The state earned $34.6 million via admissions and wagering taxes paid by the gaming venues.
